A Message from the President Kenya Newby

I’m honored to serve as the 13th President of the Music City (TN) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated. With our mission top of mind, we our focused on enhancing our community in the areas of education, civic and intercultural activities.

We are the beneficiaries of extraordinary women, who understood the importance of blending friendship and volunteerism to bring significant change to the community and throughout the world.

About The Music City (TN) Chapter

As The Circle of Friends performed deeds of friendship and service within the Nashville community, they envisioned and worked towards expanding the scope and impact of their efforts.

The Links, Incorporated agreed to establish The Circle of Friends as the third chapter in Nashville.  The group selected the name Music City Chapter, The Links, Incorporated.  On June 27, 1981, under the leadership of The Links National President, Julia Purnell and National Vice President, Thelma A. Hardiman, Music City Chapter, The Links, Incorporated was chartered and twenty-one members were inducted.

The Arts

Links chapters partner with museums, symphonies, arts councils, educational institutes and corporations in order to support art programs, especially where there is a focus on artists of color. Links are creating and supporting opportunities for educating minority youth in the arts and presenting and supporting performances by youth and accomplished professional artists in a diversity of disciplines.

Services
to Youth

The words of the great children’s advocate, Marian Wright Edelman, resonate with us today more than ever. The Links, Incorporated is committed to leading the way as champions of change, ensuring that youth are academically successful and engaged in healthy lifestyles. In 2012, more than one third of children and adolescents were overweight or obese. Research shows that active, healthy children achieve greater success in school, have greater self-esteem, and become healthy adults who lead productive lives.
